Meet my Mom......she is the sweetest lady ever!! Mom has always had a hard time with her health. She was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 12. Life wasn't easy in the 50's when you were diagnosed with this. Seizures scared people.
Jump up a few years, and she meets the best man in the world! MY DAD!! He has always been so good to her. He built her a house, took her around the United States every summer, and took good care of her and us kids. I don't know what we kids or Mom would have done without him.
Mom has slowly been declining. A few years ago she was diagnosed with Olivopontocerebellar Atrophy (OPCA) - big name huh? This has wreaked havoc on her memory, speech, balance, among other things - to the point where she needed a wheelchair to go any distance.
Three weeks ago Mom fell. She broke her pelvis that required two surgeries to fix. She is now in a rehab program. Mom isn't herself though. She can't seem to kick all the anesthesia out of her system. They say it could take 6 months. She will have turned 69 by then.
I took the kids to see her today, and she didn't even know we were there. It's hard seeing your parents like that. She being so sick, and my Dad so sad and frustrated. Our family has never been big on hugging and kissing, but I just had to hug my Dad today. He hugged me so tight, I wanted to cry.
Get better Mom!!!
